In the course of the renovations that are going on at my house, my Hubby has managed to get most of the old carpet up to reveal the wood floor underneath. Progress! Except now that the floor is revealed, so are other problems, like a "ridge" of humped up boards that runs the entire length of the house, and seems to have no explanation for it from below. It may have something to do with a wall underneath, but we're not sure; Hubby won't rest until he gets those boards up and sees what is underneath. And then there are the boards that are really loose and need nailing, but one whole room has no "subfloor" -- or whatever Hubby calls it -- with nothing between the floor and the basement. It's thick and sturdy enough, but he's currently stymied as to how to nail it to make it tight so it won't creak and sag as we walk and yet not show the nails. He'll come up with a way, though; this is what he's good at -- looking at a problem from all angles until he sees the solution.

It's irritating when you think you know what you have to do to fix something, but it turns out to be a bigger job than you expected, as more and more uncovering reveals more and more complications. But still, it's fixable -- it just takes some creative thinking to switch gears and then make it happen.

Hey, that sounds like a homily and I didn't even mean it to be one! But life is like that, too, isn't it? Irritating... but if we always knew that everything we did would work just the way we thought it would, then it could get pretty boring. There are days when the unexpected is not welcome, of course, but then there are other days when it spices things up nicely. ;-)

I am actually hoping for a nice, ordinary "hobbit" sort of day today -- one without any adventures and nothing unexpected! But we'll see how it goes along; I might just have to be flexible. ;-)

Well, Bilbette, I hope you get your calm day - I can see you in one of those stop-motion commercials now. You know, the one where a central character is sitting serenely in the midst of chaos, while all around them others are going at Looney Tunes speed?

I'm sure Doug will come up with some imaginative solution, after you both stand there, he ponders, and you ask intelligent questions - you two are a great team!

Bilbette! Hah! :-D

Well, we did our standing, pondering, intelligent mutter and feigned interest routine, and he's now out there pounding away, full of ideas and energy. Aside from the pounding, it has been a nice day. Not necessarily productive in the measurable sense of the word, but nice. ;-)
