Or in other words, chota mota.
I have been very tired the last couple of days, not sure why. I could have worn myself out more than I thought shoveling heavy snow on Sunday, or it could be I'm not eating right, or I'm not sleeping well or enough. Maybe it's just the weather. I have never been one to be greatly affected by gloomy days, but I do think I would really like to see some sun soon. And have it be warm. I went for a walk this morning, and it was nice to be out moving, but it was also awkward, because it really is still too icy to walk with any kind of confidence, and there are SOME people who don't bother to shovel their sidewalks. Tsk, tsk.
I heard and saw a mourning dove on my walk today, and my mom told me they had a robin at their bird feeder the other day. Silly birds, coming back too early! But still, it's a good sign that some warmer weather is not too far away. Shhh! Don't tell my winter-loving son that I am wishing for spring!
Speaking of birds, I got a lovely new birdfirder from my dad as an early Christmas present, but it has turned out to be a disappointment. I think there have been two birds at it this winter. Sparrows. I really was hoping for cardinals, sigh. Perhaps it's set up too close to the public sidewalk. Perhaps we should consider moving it while there is still time for the birds to get used to it being there.
We got a new water meter today, as part of a routine exchange of new for old. Nice to get new stuff for free! We are most happy, because the old one made the most horridly loud thunking noise everytime the toilet was flushed or the washing machine ran, that echoed through the house. Now it is blessedly quiet.
I have taken on a new project which I'm not sure I can do, but it's worth a try. It is editing coursebooks put out by some former coworkers to help overseas workers learn the Urdu language. I am still feeling my way with it -- and part of that is learning how to use Microsoft Publisher so I can do the editing! -- but it looks interesting.
I'm still feeling the need to finetune my goals and my vision for what I want to see happen in this coming year. It may be almost March, but I still am thinking of it as a new year, and that means it's time to resolve some resolutions.
My first resolution at the moment involves lunch and then a nap!

Date: 2007-02-28 07:12 pm (UTC)From:That project sounds interesting. It is always good to get proficient on a program and that is really the only way I can do it. If I don't have something to work on as I am trying to learn I get bored, lol.
*hugs you!*

Date: 2007-02-28 07:23 pm (UTC)From:I too heard a bird this morning and it made me smile - there really is nothing like hearing your first birdcall on a still wintry morning to make you feel like maybe spring is not far off. We are due for 6-10 more inches this weekend, but the coast never gets that much...as long as its snow and not ice because the driveway is a pain in the buttocks as it is!

Date: 2007-02-28 10:50 pm (UTC)From:About bird feeders: Birds will find them wherever they are, but of course too near the sidewalk will be uncomfortable for them. Maybe near the corner of the deck farthest from the streets? Also, to attract cardinals and finches, you might try using more black sunflower seeds in your birdseed mix. I know WalMart carries the sunflower seeds, and at about the same price as what you'd get at a feed store. You might put out some black sunflower seeds along your deck railing, and see if cardinals, titmice, or finches come to eat. We feed our birds from late fall until we run out in the spring (maybe late March, maybe early May), and the cardinals will come to the porch year-round. In the spring or summer, when orioles are around, orange halves will attract them; I think some people are also successful with grape jelly!
All of the birds you feed will need water; if you don't have a birdbath, you could use old cake pans or plant saucers (heavy, not the 99-cent clear plastic that will break in no time), set on the deck or under a tree. Of course, on a pedestal is best for avoiding cats.
Your neighborhood library could probably help you contact some local bird lovers/watchers/feeders, who could help you get an affortable start in backyard bird watching. (That's all we do, but living in the country, we have bunches of birds year-round.)
*hugs and blessings*
