linaewen: (Star Trek Tribble Sigh by silver_echoes)
It's raining today.  We are expecting something like four inches, so the job before me as soon as I finish here is to head down to the basement and clean up down there -- at least enough to get stuff off the floor.  Just in case!  Every time I go down there lately, I think, "Man, I need to do some cleaning and arranging down here!"  But I never get to it.  It's also been pretty cold down there this winter, but it's not so bad today.

We should see most of our snow gone by the end of the rain.  We have only a patch or two left in our yard where that part is shaded by the garage.  It's nice to see the grass, even if it's not very green!  I'm sure we haven't seen the last of the snow just yet, though.  With the way we've been getting hit with it this winter, I'm expecting it to snow a couple of times yet in April -- maybe even in May!  It's happened before!  ;-)

The big news in my family that has us all abuzz is that my brother was laid off last week, after 17 years in his job.  He was the last one hired in his department, so he was the first to go -- a number of others in the small company were laid off as well.   The company has been struggling, but my brother was still not expecting this.  It's hit him hard, but we think it is going to turn out for good.  He's had nothing but unending stress and frustration over the last few years with this job, to the point that I worry about his health, so this could be the push he needed to look for something different.  Being laid off now while the company still has some finances left, he at least is getting good severance pay and they are reimbursing him for vacation days not taken and paying for him to go to a counseling seminar for laid off workers.  I'm planning a visit over that way this weekend, so I'm going to get together with him for a nice brother/sister chat.

I'm sure there is more news of me, but I can't think of it now -- and the basement is calling!

Have a good day, my friends, even if it's grey and rainy like it is here.  ;-)

I'm sure it's frustrating for your brother, but at least there's some decent severance. I'll be crossing my fingers that he finds a good job, and quickly.

Remembering you all and the weather too.

You go, girl! And when you finish your basement - you can come and do mine!!!

As for snow, we've still got quite a bit on the ground - though the 60 degree weather forecast for today's home OPENER (baseball) should melt the last of it. This place (work) is going to be empty come gametime!

Still wishing your brother the best!

Having had more than my share of water in basements, I sincerely hope yours stays dry! (People laugh when I tell them that one of my favorite sounds is the sump pump running, but that means my basement is dry!) It is a good idea, though, to always store things up off floor JUST IN CASE...

*cackles at your icon*

I've always wanted a basement/storm cellar, but flooded ones are not fun!

I add my prayers for your brother, Lin, that he'll find just the right job and that God will work all things together for his good.

*hugs, brownies, and blessings*

I have been remembering your brother and I am sure a good talk with sis will do a world of good.

Did you manage to accomplish your goal in the basement? How is the rain situation? It's been dismal and rainy here all day, but we are happy about it. Anything to ease this drout.

I appear to have fallen into a black hole this weekend, or at least a fuzzy pink hole, lol. I am not depressed just overwhelmed and I slept the weekend away. Rather discouraging with the list getting longer, but I feel rested today, so that is something.

*hugs!*

It's pretty soggy out there, and we have water coming in, but it's just a trickle -- though a steady one! But we got things cleaned up rather nicely down there, so I'm happy. I found some things I was looking for, and made room for some things I want to bring in from the garage, so that's great progress for one day!

Don't ever regret sleeping, the body knows what it needs, my dear.

it is grey and rainy/snowy here.

Grey and rainy/snowy beats out grey and rainy/foggy for depressing, I think. Sorry you have sad weather to add to your woes, my love! May you get some sun in your life soon -- both literally and figuratively.

I know you have to be ready for spring, ((((Lin)))). My best thoughts and prayers are with your brother. I'm glad he got a good severance package.
