There's a word in Urdu -- nichord is about as close as I can get to it in Romanized spelling -- which means "that which is wrung or pressed out; extract; outcome; essence, substance, gist, pith."  One could also say it means "in a nutshell."

So here it is, what I've been up to lately -- wrung out and put in a nutshell.  ;-)
  • I recovered from my flu shot that I had awhile back; it had me down for the count for a couple of days, though!
  • We had a lovely visit recently from friends who spent the day with us and we showed them around Chicago.
  • I went up to Wisconsin for almost a week, and got lots done.  I spent much time with my DS and also spent a night with my dad, at which time I also got to see my brother and my aunt, and talked for a long time on the phone with my sister.  I also visited with the inlaws and got to see some friends from church, so it was a fruitful and encouraging visit.
  • One of the main reasons to go upnorth last week was to rake leaves.  We got a TON of leaves raked up and onto the curb for collecting; there is only one day a year assigned to our street for leaf pickup, so I didn't want to miss that, and I knew DS would be able to manage all those leaves on his own.  It was good exercise, and because I had help, it didn't take so very long.
  • I'm back in Chicago now, getting back into my routine and keeping an eye on DH, who was pretty sick while I was gone.  He's on his way to getting better, but he's not there yet.
  • Living in Chicago has its drawbacks, particularly when one is a Green Bay Packer fan in the midst of Chicago Bears territory.  It was very nice being able to actually watch the Packer game on TV for a change this past weekend -- and even nicer that it was the Bears we were playing against.  ;-)  *grins with much satisfaction at the outcome of the game*
  • I've been struggling with nosebleeds of late -- 6 bad ones in the last week!  It's because of the change in the weather and the dry air, I think; though I suppose my BP being a bit high at the moment is not helping any.  I'm doing what I can to prevent them, and taking masses of tissues with me wherever I go, in case I can't.
  • I really, really, really wanted to post a special post about my mom last week -- the 10th being the six month anniversary of her passing.  However, I didn't get it done.  I'm working on it, though, so it will be put up here eventually.  I think I shall wait now until after the big LJ move.  ;-)
And now a question -- has anyone ever had one of their user icons disappear for no reason?  I noticed that the one I used in my last post was missing, and when I went to check my list of userpics, it was there in the description but the picture was gone, and just showed that broken image link thingy.  Any idea why or how that might have happened?  I uploaded it again, and it immediately was visible in all the places where I had used the userpic previously.  I hope it is just a fluke and that no one has been tampering with my userpics!  Perhaps I should change my password....  The image was this one, though I'm not sure why anyone would want to pick on this poor sleepyhead!

Lj is being migrated to new servers tomorrow, so all manner of weird stuff can happen. Like, you know, your whole journal disappearing.

Makes me wonder why I haven't gotten around to backing my journal up yet! It's easy to replace a missing icon, not so easy to replace all my thoughts over the past couple of years. Well, we'll see how it goes. I am going to think positively today, and say a few "LJ stay safe" prayers, too! :-)

A suggestion for the nosebleeds (that has been a problem of mine since childhood). Use just a dab of vaseline around the front inside of your nostrils. It will help keep it lubricated and less likely to crack and bleed. Some medical advice will tell you it's not a good idea, but when I stopped using it every night I immediately started having multiple nosebleeds every day. Rather take my chances with the vaseline.

Hope that helps.

Good info from an expert! That's what I'm trying since yesterday, and it seems to be helping so far.

I was thinking about you recently. Glad to hear from you. Sorry about DH being ill and your nosebleeds. I have to tell you of this fantastic little product I found called AYR gel. It comes in a tube and as a spray. Both are nice, but I particularly like the spray. It isn't so thick that you can't breathe through it, and feels natural. K-mart had it around here.

I hope you get a chance to write about your mom.

Thank you for the suggestion for my nose, I'll look for that product.

I have what I want to say about my mom floating around in my head, I just have to sit still long enough to pull it out and get it on paper. ;-)

Hope you are keeping well up there in the north. We had a sudden snow yesterday and now it's definitely winter. The snow isn't going to last, but I know there will be more. It will be interesting to see what kind of winters they have in Chicago as compared to Wisconsin. :-D

Good to hear from you!

I lost one icon... tell the truth, I can't even remember which one, but it was one I'd filtched (with permission) and I had assumed that the creator of said icon had somehow removed it. It turned into some image of what looked like one of the Beatles, but not a terribly good icon. I deleted it.

Later I learned it was a glitch of some kind that had affected a few others. I never learned the why or the how... or if it would happen again. I have been making sure to save a backup of my icons elsewhere... *suspicious eyes darting left and right*

((((Lin)))) Missed you!!

Not to say that I'm glad you lost an icon, but it is good to know it wasn't just me and I am in good company, lol! I got to thinking it was probably a glitch after all. At least it was easily corrected! And yes, I do have a backup of my icons, so I knew right where to go to find this one again.

*hugs Loth back*
