Well, I might have found my dream house.

Unfortunately, it is not Hubby's dream house.  ;-)

Not because there is anything wrong with it in particular, but because it's on the very upper edge of what we have set as our price range.  And that is a legitimate reason for putting it on the "this could work, but let's look for something cheaper" list.

My hubby is very much a "don't buy the first thing you see, unless you have looked at a million other options first and then come back to it" train of thought.  And I'm willing to go with that -- as long as he lets me keep this one on the list.  If we don't find anything else suitable, I'm all for this one.  The back yard alone is worth the money, IMO -- it reminded me at once of the backyard of the house I grew up in, that my dad cultivated carefully to be wild in an organized way.  A house that comes with a magnificent blue spruce and wee apple tree with crisp looking apples and a front porch made for a rocking chair can't be all bad.  And the inside is fun, too -- just old enough to be interesting but not so old that it is impossible to heat or cool; roomy enough that 3 adults + a guest or two could have a grand time together or separately -- without being so big that we hear the echoes as we knock around in it.

The worst thing about it was the kitchen -- pretty small, but quaintly cute for all that.   I already have a few ideas about how I could get by without complaining about that.

It wasn't the first we saw -- that one was hands down a no go as soon as we entered the house and saw the wooden pillar in the middle of the living room holding up the sagging ceiling.  It just got worse as we went through the house and saw the amateurish attempts at remodeling.  Oy!  The third one we saw today was worth looking at, but the bathrooms were distinctly a problem that made the rest of the house really not worth considering -- and the traffic noise from the busy street was no better than the interstate which already plagues us in our apartment.

We've got a couple of weeks left to look hard at lots of places, before we decide which one we are going to go for -- I hoping to find a place with all the things I love about Dream House Number One, wrapped up in a cheaper package.

oh oh! This says home to me but it is practically screaming you! I can certainly understand your husbands practicality but you know, sometimes the universe just makes it easy when God wants to put us somewhere for a reason. At least that's how I interpret it.

It has a purple door! It doesn't even matter if you would keep it purple. The fact is it is purple now! I love that and I am not sure why. Maybe because of "Mr. Pines Purple House" my childhood favorite storybook. Or maybe because purple is a little whimsical for a door. Or maybe because it is the color for transformation and for Easter.

And it has a yard for organized wildness (my favorite) and it has Important Trees.

If it were me, I think I might sit myself down in the middle of that yard and say, "I'll see you back here when you are done prooving to yourself that it really is possible to hit it right on the first day."

But perhaps I am ever so slightly impulsive... *ponders*

The door is no longer purple, alas! But you can still see the purple paint in spots as you open the door, and it is a lovely shade. I would want it back like that, if it were mine. I'd love to have a purple door!

I am impulsive, too, and I often know what I want straight away. But I'm willing to see if there is another "me" house out there -- I'm willing to flexible about it. If nothing turns up that is convincing enough, I shall start wheedling. Hubby is at least willing to admit that there is little wrong with it. Maybe if I remind him that the high price includes all appliances and washer and dryer...

:-D

You're kidding! How twinsy is that? :-D

I shall add that to the list of why this is a good house for us.

I love it! Maybe you could write into the mortgage a redo on the kitchen...just a thought.

It's an idea. I actually quite like it, except that it has the fridge in an odd place, which makes it seem even smaller. Which could be changed, though.

We looked at a place that had an amazing kitchen, but the rest of the house was sadly wanting. I'm not so keen on having the perfect kitchen that I'll put up with lousy other stuff.

My goodness... this place says 'home'. I would say look a little more too, but sometimes God works things out perfectly - wasn't it your husband that wanted it all to fall together in two weeks? See, tell him to be careful what he asks for! If this is the one, you'll know it. :D

Actually, God ALWAYS works things out perfectly, not sometimes. How quickly we see his plan is the unknown part of the time equation.

praying for mr lin to see the light, if this is indeed 'the one'.

And I'm praying for me not to dig in my heels too soon and miss something better, lol! Between those two prayers, we ought to be quite pleased with what God shows us.

BTW, I like seeing The Cowboy out and about as your new default icon!
